COURSE AND NEW CLUBHOUSE NEWS

On Monday and Tuesday the course was closed so that the greens staff could perform green renovations. The older greens (old 8th, 11th, 12th, 15th) were cored, while the newer greens were renovated with a solid tine. They will be receiving another dressing of sand which will again be brushed in over the next week.

While the course was closed for renovations, the opportunity was taken to cut and strip the bent grass collars from the new 3rd and 6th greens and replace them with washed Santa Anna couch to make them consistent with all the other new greens. The damaged area to the rear of the new 6th green was also repaired as part of this process, though additional top dressing and rolling will be ongoing to bring this back to the required quality.

At the clubhouse the builders have continued erecting the trusses around what will be the function centre. This will form the structure of the external walls, and provide support for the roof.

Most of the scaffolding that was required to pour the various concrete slabs has now been removed.  This has really opened up the area as you can now see right through the ground floor. Click below to view the video taken on Wednesday morning of the clubhouse site.

Within the lower levels of the clubhouse the builders completed pouring the ramp which will provide access between the basement car park and the pro-shop area.

On the lower ground level, a substantial amount of steel framework has been erected which will form the internal walls of the building. This framework has been completed around the areas that will become the pro-shop, buggy storage, members locker rooms and showers and leasable office spaces along with the green keepers office and staff areas.

On the course the majority of work is now happening in the corner near the old 1st green. The shaping on the new 16th green has now been completed. Work will now begin on installing drainage and irrigation, along with further shaping of the surrounding bunkers. We are also currently receiving deliveries of clay which will be used to shape the new 15th green in the area around the old 18th tee.

The company we are using to assist with creek maintenance have also been busy on the area of creek directly adjacent to the clubhouse. They have received approval to proceed with work necessary to beautify this area. The work includes the continued removal of noxious weeds via poisoning and cutting. This will be followed by jute matting being laid along the banks, and then the planting of appropriate shrubs and native plants. This work will also involve measures to improve water flow through this area.

COURSE SUPERINTENDENT PAUL KEARY

Upon returning from leave this week Paul Keary advised us that he has a career opportunity he wishes to pursue and subsequently resigned from his position at the Club.

Paul commenced with us in January 2004 and was Course 2IC until David McGlynn resigned in April 2015 at which time Paul was promoted to Course Superintendent.

In the ensuing 2 ½ years Paul has worked tirelessly leading our course team in course maintenance and construction. During most of that period we have also been rebuilding the course and Paul has worked closely with our course Architect Jim Wilcher and the course contractors ensuring we still have 18 holes to play and our navigation around the course is as good as possible. We have also had to build and grow in 6 new temporary greens. Paul has achieved all this with a minimum of staff which required many extra hours of work by course staff.

The growing in of newly constructed areas after they are handed back to the club by the construction team has added a new dimension of work to the normal job of a Course Super.

We wish to thank Paul for the amount of effort and dedication to the job he has shown and wish him well in his future endeavours and we trust we will still see Paul playing on the course from time to time in the future.
